"And the
believers, men and women, are protecting friends one of another; they enjoin the right and forbid the wrong,
and they establish
worship and they pay the poor-due, and
they obey Allah and His messenger.
As for these, Allah will have mercy on them. Lo! Allah
is Mighty, Wise." (At-Tawba :71)
"It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces to the East and the West; but righteous
is he who believeth in Allah and the Last Day and the angels
and the Scripture
and the prophets; and giveth wealth, for
love of Him, to kinsfolk and to orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and to those who ask, and to set" slaves free; and observeth proper worship and
payeth the poor-due.
And those who keep their treaty when they make one, and
the
patient in tribulation and adversity
and time of stress. Such are they who are sincere. Such are the God-fearing." (Al-Baqarah : 177)
Anas, may God be pleased with him, narrated
that
Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said that: "None
of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother that which he loves for himself." (Bukhari and Muslim)
The secret to
getting things one wishes to have is to keep giving, and the secret to
getting helps one wishes
to get is to help others. There's never
been a story
of someone going bankrupt
because of giving too much,
nor there's a story of someone suffer due to helping others too often.
The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings
be upon him, said that: "The Merciful One shows mercy to those who are merciful (to others).
So show mercy
to whatever
is on earth, then He who is in heaven
will show mercy
to you."
(Abu Dawood and at- Tirmidhi)
In a battle it is
said that there was a dying
soldier and so he asked for water. When
a companion showed up and about to give him the water he
requested, they heard another call for water, so the first soldier told him to bring
the
water to the second
soldier. When the companion reached
the second soldier
and about to
give him the water, they heard
another call from another direction
to which the second soldier asked the companion to give the water to the third soldier.
And when the companion reached the third soldier and about to
give him the water, the soldier looked at the first soldier and asked the companion to give the water to him instead
as he, the first soldier, requested
it in the first place. When the
companion went back to the first soldier,
he died before getting the chance to take a sip, and so did the
second and the third soldiers
because they wanted to help and putting others' needs first before theirs. We all shall learn from this
touching story.
Islam demands the presence of a
Muslim to be a blessing for the entire universe so the help given by the Muslim isn't only for other Muslims but also for people
of other beliefs and even other creatures.
Another well-known story is of a prostitute who ultimately went to paradise because she gave water to a dog dying
of thirst in the desert. This story inspires us that being helpful shall be the character of a
Muslim to declare himself as the one who spread God's mercy in this universe.
Thus be a true Muslim
who's always helpful
and make helping others as a way of life as
well
as our identity. Allah keeps track of those who love helping his brothers and sisters!
